Why Holiday in Lanzarote?

Lanzarote is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain.  Although this small Canary Island in fact lies much close to the coast of Africa then the European mainland.  Many miles south of the Iberian Peninsula.

This location gives the island a semi tropical climate – making it an ideal place to spend a break at any time of the year.  With very little rainfall and sunshine aplenty even during the winter months.

There are three main holiday resorts on Lanzarote; Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Cost Teguise.  All of which boast a good selection of beaches and restaurants as well as plenty of places to stay.

The best range of accommodation in Lanzarote can be found in the southern resort of Playa Blanca.  Where good value four star hotels line the shoreline and holiday villas are available from as little as €350 per week.  Puerto del Carmen – the islands oldest resort – is the best place to search for apartments in Lanzarote though.  As there is a very high concentration of complexes here.
Whilst the countryside is home to an abundance of chic rural hotels and eco friendly fincas.

Lanzarote is a real beach lover’s paradise as there are over 90 great stretches of sand to explore around the island.  Many of the beaches in the main resorts are in fact man made – using sand imported from the Sahara which is located just 100 miles away.  But there are plenty of more all natural options dotted around the island.  Such as Famara, Arrieta and Papagayo.

The best way to explore is on four wheels – as Lanzarote car hire is very inexpensive, especially in comparison with other Spanish sunspots.  Rental rates start at about €15 per day and car hire offices can be found in all of the main resorts as well as at the airport.

As well as great beaches Lanzarote boasts a unique volcanic terrain.  Forged by fire during huge eruptions some 250 years ago.  Which decimated much of the interior of the island – leaving it looking like the surface of the moon.  This surreal scenery is so dramatic that is has been used as backdrop by numerous filmmakers over the years.  Most recently Pedro Almodovar – who shot his most recent release Broken Embraces, starring Penelope Cruz, around the island.

Lanzarote is also home to a wealth of pretty picture perfect villages and towns.  Such as Teguise, the oldest Spanish settlement in the Canary Island with many buildings dating back as far as the 125h century.?
